Breaking New Ground in Hydrogen Energy: Hydrosys Delivers the First Hydraulic-Driven Hydrogen Compressor to the EU

On April 8, 2025, Hydrosys (Beijing Hydrosys Technology Co., Ltd.) successfully delivered its first hydraulic-driven hydrogen compressor to the United Kingdom.

This project marks Hydrosys’ first large-scale compressor project deployed in the EU market and represents the first time a Chinese-made hydrogen compressor system of this type has entered the EU hydrogen energy sector.

The delivered core compressor equipment adopts an integrated design combining control and compression systems into a single compact solution. To ensure full compliance with stringent European market requirements, Hydrosys conducted in-depth research and engineering adaptation for multiple international certification standards, including:

  • CE Certification
  • ATEX Certification
  • Machinery Directive (MD)
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
  • Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
  • Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)

The system fully meets the customer’s demanding technical and operational requirements.

Leveraging its advanced hydraulic-driven compression technology and integrated system solutions, Hydrosys successfully replaced the customer’s original diaphragm compressor system. The hydraulic-driven compressor offers key advantages such as rapid start-stop capability, high operational flexibility, and enhanced system efficiency, helping accelerate the deployment of hydrogen refueling infrastructure in the EU.

Advanced 700bar Multi-Stage Hydrogen Compression Technology

The project utilizes advanced 700bar multi-stage compression technology developed by Hydrosys. The hydraulic-driven hydrogen compressor system enables fast filling for both high-pressure mobile hydrogen storage trailers and stationary hydrogen storage cylinder groups, significantly improving hydrogen refueling efficiency and operational reliability.

During project implementation, Hydrosys also overcame several major challenges commonly faced by Chinese high-end equipment manufacturers entering overseas markets, including:

  • International payment and financing innovation
  • Long-term overseas service assurance
  • Cross-border legal and compliance integration

By addressing these complex challenges, Hydrosys established a stronger long-term support system for overseas customers while further strengthening its international project delivery capabilities.
